Rolling like a mighty ocean

I’ve had a deep affection for the ocean since my childhood. The image above depicts a beach in Hawaii, a place I have yet to visit but hope to one day, should it align with God’s plan. The photographs that follow showcase the Cape Coral Yacht Club, where I spent countless hours reflecting on the meaning of life as a girl. The deck was my usual spot when I wasn’t in the water, and that bench became my favorite reading nook. Now, at thirty years old, I find the ocean just as mesmerizing as I did in my youth. I recall gazing at the sea where it meets the sky at the horizon, falling in love with the ever-shifting colors. Those moments were filled with wonder at God’s magnificent creation, a beautiful masterpiece that left me in awe. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my cheeks while observing the rolling waves was incredibly refreshing, akin to savoring a cold drink, leaving me thirsting for more. I cherish the sense of wild freedom the ocean offers; sitting on the dock, observing others amidst the vast expanse of water, serves as a humbling reminder of our shared humanity before the formidable power of the sea. Regardless of our skin color, background, language, or faith, we all must strive to stay afloat.

The ocean embodies a multitude of peaceful emotions: profound pleasure, relaxation, joy, wonder, release, containment, love, humility, and, above all, gratitude. Now that I’m an adult contemplating the ocean, I recognize that life is constantly evolving, much like the waves. Some days are serene and gentle, with small waves inviting you to either plunge in or stroll along the shore. Other days evoke a childlike excitement, as the towering waves beckon you to ride them. However, there are also days when the ocean is turbulent, accompanied by dark clouds that make the thought of being in it quite frightening. These scenarios can be seen as reflections of life itself. As I have matured, I have come to value all varieties of ocean experiences, understanding that none are permanent due to their ever-changing nature, which has taught me to live in the present. I have learned to appreciate each moment, realizing that the joyful days are fleeting, just as the stormy ones are.

While the uncertainty of the future can be daunting, similar to those tumultuous ocean days, the thrill of new adventures motivates me to plunge in and discover what the next wave may bring. Ultimately, there are no guarantees of calm waters. It is essential to maintain perspective and foster optimism each day, allowing us to appreciate the shifting tides and recognize the beauty in what the Lord has created.

Jeremiah 31:35

This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar-

The Lord almighty is his name.
